Every December, as neighborhoods across Forney begin to glow with holiday lights, Sharing The Love Foundation quietly lights up lives in another way—through its beloved Senior Santa Tree program. What began as a simple gesture of kindness has grown into a community tradition rooted in compassion, dignity, and connection.
In partnership with the Layden Senior Center, Fellowship Church, and First Presbyterian Church of Forney, STL invites community members to “adopt” a local senior citizen for the holidays. Each tag on the tree represents a senior in need—some living alone, others facing financial hardship, and many simply grateful to be remembered. Community members select a tag, shop for the items on their senior’s wish list, and return the gifts beautifully wrapped and filled with love.
But the true magic happens during Christmas week, when Sharing The Love’s Young Ambassadors—a group of youth dedicated to service—fan out across neighborhoods to deliver the gifts right to each senior’s doorstep. For many elders, this visit is more than a delivery; it’s a reminder that their community sees them, values them, and cares deeply about their well-being. Smiles at the door, warm conversations, and the occasional happy tear have become hallmarks of this joyful tradition.
Every year, we’re reminded that giving is really about connection. Our seniors deserve to feel celebrated, and our young volunteers walk away with a deeper understanding of kindness and community.
Anyone interested in adopting a senior this holiday season can visit the Layden Senior Center located at 101 E. Main Street in Forney or connect with our participating local church partners to choose a Senior Angel tree tag.
And for those who would like to experience the joy of giving firsthand, Sharing The Love is welcoming volunteers to help deliver gifts on December 20th. Visit our volunteer page to sign up and be part of something truly special.
This Christmas one small gesture can make a world of difference—and together, Forney is proving just how powerful love in action can be.
