Cultivating Community, One Seed at a Time
The Children's Legacy Garden
The Children's Legacy Garden in Forney, Texas, established by the Sharing the Love Foundation, serves as a vibrant community space where youth learn about agriculture, responsibility, and community service. Since its inception on March 20, 2021, the approximately 3,000 sq. ft. garden has produced over 3,000 pounds of fresh produce, benefiting local seniors, veterans, and underserved families.
Beyond cultivation, the garden hosts workshops that teach children essential gardening skills, promoting healthy eating and environmental stewardship. Recent enhancements include a toddler gardening area, a pumpkin patch, perennial flower beds with medicinal and native plants, fruit trees, a succulent garden, a rain barrel, and an outdoor kitchen and workstation. These additions aim to enrich the educational experience and foster a deeper connection between youth and nature.
The garden's success is a testament to the collective effort of volunteers, community members, and supporters who believe in nurturing the next generation through hands-on learning and service. As the garden continues to flourish, it stands as a beacon of hope and a model for community-driven initiatives that empower youth and address food insecurity.
